Started by James Roberts and Claire Whitworth the team was born from a desire to create and deliver an environment of equality, empowerment, resilience and success through women’s cycling.
The profile of women’s cycling has made great steps forward in recent times. However, progress is slow and we are a long way from equality of opportunity, participation and recognition. The team aims to compete at the highest level of junior bike racing while sharing inspirational personal stories of success, failure and, most importantly, progression. We passionately believe that these stories will transcend sport and help break down barriers to equality of opportunity and female success.
With the support of our partners, the team is aiming for maximum impact and hopes to be a catalyst for change in British cycling. Our ambition is to help take youth and junior women’s cycling to the next level and remove barriers to participation which prevent many young women from discovering and enjoying this amazing sport.
After a highly successful 2022 in which the Junior Women’s team secured its first ever UCI win, JRC – Equality in Sport has decided to focus exclusively on women’s riding. For 2023, we have selected a team of riders which combines talent, experience and ambition across a range of cycling disciplines. With a blend of first and second year junior riders plus a youth development squad, the team will be active across the UK and in Europe in single and multi-day stage races.
